Foreign boats will be able to go on the lakes and rivers of Russia

According to daily newspaper RATA-news, the State Duma adopted on 29th June 2011 in the second and third readings a bill that allows boats under foreign flags to go on lakes and rivers of Russia for sports, cultural and recreational tourism, if there are not more than 18 people on board, including crew.

The bill specifies that navigation on inland Russian waterways for sports, cultural and recreational tourism by boats under flags of foreign countries (if there are not more than 18 people on board, including not more than 12 passengers) is carried out in accordance with the regulations that will be established by the Russian government. At the same time such a vessel must have documents that specify its type and purpose and give the right to raise the flag of the state in which it is registered.

In addition, the law stipulates that vessels under foreign flag will be subject to compulsory pilotage, unless stipulated by international treaties of the Russian Federation. The Russian government is empowered to approve the list of ports and inland waterways that are opened for entry and navigation for such vessels.

Karelia is a land of rivers and lakes. Besides, it is washed by the White Sea. Moreover, boating tourists can take the White sea - Baltic Canal to travel to St. Petersburg. Therefore, Karelia offers foreign yachts opportunities for sports, recreational and cultural tourism.
