Rabocheostrovsk

Rabocheostrovsk is situated in 12 km from Kem.

The settlement received the name Rabocheostrovsk in 1933, the previous name - Popov Island, like the name of the largest island in the group, located near the coast of Kem. Popov Island now is a part of modern Rabocheostrovsk.

A concentration camp of Kem was here from 1923 to 1936. It was a member of the first Soviet concentration camps, Solovki, and submitted to the Office of the northern camp of special purpose.
