Haykolya

Historic village Haykolya is one of the oldest and best-preserved settlements in the historical and cultural territory "White Sea Karelia". It represent the system of settling ethnic group of northern Karelian , in their culture is very important rune-singing tradition.

Haykolya village located on an island Luotosaari,  in Lake Haykolskom (Haykolya), about 40 km to  east of the Kalevala in the direction of Kemi. According to sources, it appeared in the second half of the XVIII century.
 
Haykolya never  were a great country, because the island is limited to the area (length of 1 km, width 0.5 km). In the first half of XX century the village expanded to the mainland, but the objects of historic buildings of the village are preserved only on the island. The oldest building of the village is a barn on the farm O.Stepanova. It was built in the late XVIII - early XIX centuries. and moved here from the village Tuhkanivaara. In 2007, commissioned by the National Center for State Protection of Cultural Heritage made ​​restoration of the monument.
