The VIth International festival of Puppet Theatres of Barents Region starts in Petrozavodsk today

The VIth International festival of Puppet Theatres of Barents Region will be held from October 17 to 21. The unusual nomadic festival every two years gathering puppet theaters of northern territories of the region will be held in Karelia for the first time. 14 theater troupes from Russia, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Iceland and Estonia will show their best performances at the festival. The festival playbill offers performances both for children over 2 years, and for adults. The festival is organized and held by the State Puppet Theatre of the Republic of Karelia.

The festival will show rare for our country patterns of North-European theater culture and for five festival days Petrozavodsk will become a center of theater art.

«One can view importance of our festival for theater Russia by the fact that leading theater figures in the field of puppet performance from Moscow, St.-Petersburg, other large cities of both our country, and from Finland were anxious to come to the festival and watch offered performances,» - the Puppet Theatre of Karelia director Elena Larionova considers.

«The festival gives a unique opportunity to puppet theaters from different countries to present their traditions and exchange experience gained by northern people in the field of culture, - director of information office of Nordic council of Ministers in St.-Petersburg Minna Hanhijärvi noted. - Visitors of the festival and children, its most strict spectators, have an opportunity to watch surprising puppet shows.»

The festival is organized at financial participation of the Federal agency for culture and cinematography, North Culture Foundation, Union of Theater Figures of Russia.
