Creation of the Ladoga Skerries national park is drawing towards completion.

On September 4 there was announced a competition for development of ecological and economic feasibility for formation of the Ladoga Skerries national park located in territory of Karelia as of natural area of preferential protection of federal value. The Government of Russia assigns 5 million 100 thousand roubles for these purposes, Karelia's share makes 3 million 100 thousand roubles.

The competition will be summarized on November 9, and November 25 is the deadline for submission of the necessary package of documents to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation.

Decision on creation of the natural area of preferential protection in Ladoga region was made at the end of 2007 at the meeting of the Minister of Natural Resources of the Russian Federation Yury Trutnev with the Head of Karelia Sergey Katanandov. On May 23 by the order of the Government of the Russian Federation the Ladoga Skerries national park was included in the List of the state natural reserves and national parks recommended for organization in territory of the Russian Federation in 2009 - 2010.

In case of positive decision of the State ecological appraisal which, in particular, specifies total area of the national park, structure and area of the land assigned to the national park, and included in its borders without withdrawal from practical use, consent to inclusion of these territories in the list of objects of the federal property, etc., documents are appropriately transferred to the Government of the Russian Federation which charges the specially empowered federal body of the government to consider these documents and submit the agreed-on project of its regulation on establishment of the new national park to the Government of the Russian Federation.
