Jushkozero - one of the most picturesque rune-singing villages in North Karelia, where were collected the world famous runes of epic "Kalevala", which located at the confluence of the rivers Chirca-Kem’ and Kem’. It is a beautiful Karelian village, built in the traditional style. The houses are located along the shore, block walls overlook to the river. Today the village also famous for its hanging bridges. Juškozero village for its unique beauty called Venice of the North Karelia.
Today, the village have 750 inhabitants, 70 percent of them – Karelian. Ancient Karelian buildings, ethnocultural and linguistic identity, folklore of ancient Karelians give a special flavor of the area.
The village Juškozero cherish their native language, ancient folk customs, songs and dances. It is held annually Folk Festival "Four seasons in Kalevala." The aim of the festival - the revival of the language and culture of North Karelia, the development of the economic potential of the region through cultural, agricultural, ecological and scientific tourism.
The village is famous for its arts and crafts masters who sew on an old wooden boat models, weave baskets of sticks, woven on antique looms rugs that exist in each Karelian house. Recently, the international project Tacis Juškozero created craft center.
More than 30 years there is a folk group "Twomey", which is famous for its folk dances and songs, roundelay, ditties. In Juškozero lives only one singer-ioyg Helmi Wrekin.
